Season at a Glance
The 2022
MLB season is upon us. Let’s get into it!
Key
Points
- The
2022 MLB season starts a week later than planned because of the lockout.
- The
usual suspects are among the favorites to win the 2022 World Series.
The 2022
MLB Season
The 2022
MLB season will finally get underway on April 7 after a lockout between the
league and the players union delayed its start.
Teams will
skip their original first week opponents and make those games up throughout the
season. The regular season has been extended three days to allow for makeup
games to be played.

There has
not been a repeat World Series champion since the New York Yankees won three
straight between 1998 and 2000. Last year’s champion, Atlanta, is among the
favorites to challenge the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League.
Here’s a
look at the betting MLB baseball this season.

Madness betting menu?
Favorites
to Win World Series
As
mentioned, the Dodgers are the favorite to capture the 2022 World Series. L.A.
was the favorite for most of last season until they ran into Atlanta in the
NLCS.
Houston,
which has played in the last five straight American League Championship Series,
is also among the favorites. The Astros return a lineup that features former
MVP Jose Altuve and 2022 MVP candidate Yordan Alvarez. Houston also gets P
Justin Verlander back in the rotation.
The Braves
signed Matt Olson in the offseason and then let former NL MVP Freddie Freeman
find a new home with the Dodgers (another reason with L.A. is favored). Atlanta
still has a solid pitching staff with Charlie Morton and Max Fried and star
Ronald Acuna Jr. will return from an ACL injury.
Milwaukee
returns one of the best pitching rotations in baseball with NL Cy Young winner
Corbin Burnes and Brandon Woodruff. The Mets signed ace Max Scherzer to pair
with Jacob deGrom and they overhauled their lineup adding Starling Marte.
Anyone that is savvy when betting
MLB baseball need to know the big offseason
moves.
The Yankees
are still a star-studded lineup and return Gerrit Cole, who could be the best
pitcher in baseball. New York has plenty of sluggers, but they will have to
stay healthy for an entire season to make a run.
New in the
2022 MLB Season
With the
internet, there has been a rapid
evolution of online betting. As does
the MLB. For the first time in the history of MLB, uniforms will feature
advertising. Taking a cue from the NBA, MLB uniforms will be permitted to carry
logos and other advertising messaging.
The “ghost
runner” experiment is over. Last year, a runner was placed on second base when
a game went to extra innings. That rule is gone. MLB also eliminated the
seven-inning doubleheader. All doubleheaders will feature nine-inning
games.
The biggest
changes heading into the 2022 MLB season involve the designated hitter and the
postseason. The DH will now be universal and will be used in both leagues. This
will be sure to boost MLB totals at your
online sportsbook.
MLB also
voted to expand the playoffs adding an extra wild card to each league. That
expands the current postseason to 12 teams total, six in each league.
The Usual
Suspects Are Back in ‘22
At the top
of the favorites to win the AL MVP is reigning MVP Shohei Ohtani of the Los
Angeles Angels. Right behind him is his teammate, Mike Trout.
Considered
by many to be the best player in the game, Trout is back after an injury cut
his 2021 season short. He’ll be right in the thick of the MVP race along with
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. who led the majors in homers last year with 48.
In the
National League, Freeman is among the MVP favorites along with Mookie Betts,
Bryce Harper, Juan Soto, and Acuna who, as mentioned, also returns from an
injury.
