An Inside Look at the 2022
College Football Season
The 2022 college
football season is right around the corner.
Key Points
– A handful of
programs are once again among the favorites to win this year’s college football
national championship.
– There are not many
contenders outside of the usual favorites to win the 2022 national title.
The
2022 College Football Season
The 2022 college
football season will be here sooner than one thinks. Reigning national champion
Georgia is among the favorites to capture this year’s College Football Playoff
national championship. The Bulldogs and the SEC are poised to be the sport’s
premier conference once again.
Last year,
Cincinnati surprised everyone but themselves by going unbeaten in the regular
season, capturing the American Athletic Conference championship, and becoming
the first Group of 5 program to qualify for the CFP.
Is there another program
out there that could surprise the NCAA football world in 2022?
We never can get
enough football. Last time we looked at after the 2022 NFL Draft. We looked at
futures, rookies and the J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets. Check it out.
The CFP
Favorites
Georgia (+350) is
among the favorites as mentioned, but SEC rival Alabama is the overall favorite
to win it all this season. Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide team is given +200 odds to
win this year’s national championship.
Saban returns
Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young who threw for 4,872 yards and 47 touchdowns
last season. He led Alabama’s offense to an average of 40 points per game.
The Crimson Tide
defense will simply reload as it does almost every season. Linebacker Will
Anderson Jr. could be the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft next year. He will lead a
unit that is always among the best in the country.
Alabama has won
seven national championships since 2009.The biggest competition will come from
Georgia. Looking at football scores and odds, it’s easy to
see why.
The Bulldogs went
14-1 last year with the only loss coming to Alabama in the SEC championship
game.
Since head coach
Kirby Smart took over, Georgia is 66-15 overall. Smart’s defense was the best
in the country last year and five of its players were drafted in the first
round of this year’s NFL draft. Georgia also has QB Stetson Bennett back.

Buckeyes A Contender
The SEC gets plenty of hype but don’t
forget Ohio State from the Big Ten. Head coach Ryan Day led the Buckeyes to a
10-2 record last season and a win in the Rose Bowl.
The 2021 Buckeyes lost in the national
championship game to Alabama. Day will have Heisman Trophy finalist QB C.J.
Stroud back to run the high-powered offense.
Stroud is actually this year’s Heisman
favorite after throwing for 4,435 yards and 44 touchdowns in 2021. The Buckeyes
are the favorite to win the Big Ten title and they are given +450 odds to win
this year’s CFP.

The Usual Suspects for the 2022
College Football Season
In the eight College Football Playoffs so
far, every single one has featured some combination of at least two of the
following schools - Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State.
Georgia has now played in two CFPs. Ohio
State has played in four, Clemson six, and Alabama has appeared the most times
at seven.
After appearing in six straight national
semifinals, Clemson started slowly last season and missed the CFP. D.J.
Uiagalelei was a first-year starter at quarterback and it took a while for the
Tigers offense to catch up.
The defense was outstanding and Clemson
went on to win its final six games of the season in a row. The Tigers finished
10-3 with another bowl win. Clemson is listed at +1000 at the best
sportsbooks to win it all this year.
Sleepers To Watch
It is extremely hard for any team to make
the CFP though it has become commonplace for a handful of programs (Alabama,
Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State).
Only Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio State are
given odds of better than +1000. Even teams like Texas A&M and USC are
given +2500 odds.
Cincinnati’s run from last year will be
hard to duplicate. The Bearcats and UCF are the only Group of Five teams
anywhere on the board. Both are listed at +25000 to win a national championship.
In looking for sleepers, the Aggies at
+2500 have one of the best recruiting classes in the country. If head coach
Jimbo Fisher can figure out the quarterback situation, Texas A&M could have
a shot.
USC Are An Interesting Team
Another interesting development is what
is happening at USC. The Trojans went out and lured former Oklahoma head coach
Lincoln Riley to Los Angeles.
All Riley did with the Sooners was win 55
of his 65 games. He travels to L.A. with his quarterback from last year, Caleb
Williams. He transferred and is eligible immediately.
A number of other transfers who will
likely play immediately give Riley and USC some hope for not only the Trojans
but the Pac-12 as a whole. The only Pac-12 team to ever make the CFP was
Washington in 2017.
USC is given +2500 odds just like Texas
A&M. No other college football program is given better than +5000 odds.
That would be Oklahoma, Riley’s former team, that is listed at +5000.
