NFL Week 11
By the Numbers
The top two
teams in the Super Bowl futures odds escaped Week 11 of the NFL season with
victories. The Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers did nothing to
diminish their statuses at the top of the AFC. The 9-1 Chiefs scored late to
beat the Raiders, while the 10-0 Steelers cruised over the 1-9 Jaguars.

Six other
favorites weren't as fortunate, with some impressive performances turned in by
several underdogs. The Tennessee Titans were six-point dogs to Baltimore but
turned in a 30-24 win on the road. It was the biggest upset of the week.
What Do the
Numbers Say?
After
Philadelphia lost to Cleveland, Washington beat the Bengals, and Dallas
defeated Minnesota, the NFC East is a logjam. For the first time, more than one
division team grabbed a win over an opponent outside the NFC East.
In what
could be the understatement of the season, the NFC East is easily the worst
division in memory. The best record a team in the division can finish with is
9-6-1. But that team, Philadelphia, doesn't look like it will get there.
Every team
has managed just three wins in 10 games, making a sub-.500 champion a real
possibility. You won’t see any NFC East team near the top of the updated
Super Bowl LV futures lists.
Meanwhile,
the AFC North teams have compiled 25 wins, over double the NFC East total. Led
by the undefeated Steelers, that win sum is despite the 2-7-1 record of the
Bengals. The preseason Super Bowl favorite Baltimore Ravens are a struggling
third in the division, a testament to the tough competition.

The Betting
Week
Favorites
had a tough week, winning only eight of 14 games outright. The Carolina
Panthers led the way for the underdogs. They hung a 20-0 shutout on the
three-point favorite Lions, Carolina's first in five years.
Another
favorite, the Miami Dolphins, saw a five-game losing streak end with a 20-13
loss at Denver. The Broncos were four-point home underdogs but held Miami to
223 total yards. Dolphins starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was benched in
the fourth quarter after going 11-of-20 for just 83 yards.
Against the
spread, the underdogs covered in eight games, with the winless Jets losing
leading the way. They were able to cover the 10 points but still remained
winless following a 34-28 loss to the Chargers.
The
Steelers, in keeping their record spotless, easily covered the highest spread
of the week. They held the Jaguars to 206 yards and forced four turnovers in a
dominating 27-3 win. The 11-point spread, in retrospect, seems woefully low.

Under the
Boardwalk
In a season
when scoring has been up over 2019, Week 11 had four games with teams held
below double-digits. We’re still offering lots of great free
picks though! Most notable were Detroit's scoreless outing and
Jacksonville's lone field goal in the loss to Pittsburgh.
Cincinnati
and Atlanta also failed to reach 10 points, both scoring nine in losses to
Washington and New Orleans. Overall, eight of the week's 14 games favored the
under, with the Carolina-Detroit game coming up 27 points short.
The
highest-scoring game of the weekend was Kansas City's thrilling 35-31 win over
the Raiders. The game had the highest over/under line of Week 11, but it wasn't
high enough for the under bettors.
