NFL Week 12
By the Numbers
It was
truly as weird a week as there ever has been in the NFL. Week 12 of the 2020
season watched a Thanksgiving Day game get postponed to Sunday only to be
postponed to Tuesday before finally settling on a Wednesday afternoon kickoff
(we hope).
If that
isn’t enough, how about an opening line at -5.5 that skyrocketed to -17 by
kickoff? Yeah, it was crazy. Who knows, Week 13 could provide more of the same.

Zero
The Denver
Broncos went from three quarterbacks to zero last week. Drew Lock, Brett
Rypien, and Blake Bortles all tested positive for the coronavirus. That left
Denver head coach Vic Fangio with a decision.
Running
back Royce Freeman had been listed as the team’s emergency quarterback. Fangio
decided to activate WR Kendall Hinton, who had played quarterback at Wake
Forest.
Because of
the move, the Broncos went from 5.5-point underdogs to New Orleans to 16.5- to
17-point dogs by kickoff on Sunday. Sportsbooks took a hit as it was nearly
impossible to figure out how to make the wager seem even. The Saints won 31-3.

One
One bettor
decided to go all-in on Chicago to upset Green Bay on Sunday night. The bettor
laid down $100,000 on the Bears at +320 on the moneyline and, for good measure,
put another hundred grand on the Bears to cover the 7.5-point spread. The
sportsbooks didn’t even flinch. Green Bay easily defeated Chicago 41-25.
An even
better “One” was the one dollar that a bettor put on Tennessee RB Derrick
Henry. The bettor wagered on Over 109 rushing yards x rushing TDs. Henry went
off for 178 yards and three touchdowns for a total of 534. The max win/loss was
set at $300, the bettor’s $1 turned into $300.

Two (and
a half)
The
Washington Football Team was a 2.5-point underdog to rival Dallas on
Thanksgiving Day. Washington jumped out to a 17-13 halftime lead and then
poured it on with two Antonio Gibson touchdowns and a Montez Sweat pick-six
score in the fourth quarter for a 41-16 victory.
It was
Washington’s second straight victory and moved the Football Team to 4-7 overall.
That puts them right behind the 4-7 New York Giants in the race for the NFC
East.
Six
A full six
favorites either lost outright or failed to cover. Kansas City was the most
notable. The Chiefs jumped out to a 17-0 early lead, but Tampa Bay would score
14 points in the final quarter to pull out the backdoor cover. The Chiefs were
favored by 3.5 and won 27-24.
The Raiders
and Cardinals were both favored to win on plenty free
picks, and both got destroyed on Sunday. Cleveland and the New York
Giants both won but failed to cover. The Giants also took control of first
place in the NFC East with their third straight victory giving them a 4-7
record for the season.
Speaking of
free picks, we won our Browns
at Jaguars pick last week. We took the OVER… go
take a look.
Ten
Favorites
won ten of the Thanksgiving Weekend’s fifteen games. Ironically, it was the
underdogs that covered ten of those fifteen games.
For the
season, favorites are 115-57-1 straight up, but just 76-95-2 ATS.
