NFL Week 6
By the Numbers
Week 6 of
the NFL season was a tough one for bettors that were wagering on the favorites.
Underdogs covered the spread in eight games, with five outright wins. The Green
Bay Packers were favored by just 1.5 points and got scorched by Tampa Bay,
38-10.
It finally
turned midnight for Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, with two pumpkins thrown
to the other team. After averaging over 300 yards passing in the first four
games, Rodgers managed just 160 against the Bucs. As a team, the Packers were
held to 201 yards in total offense, less than half their season average.

Dwindling
Perfection
With the
Packers' loss and wins by the Falcons and Giants, the number of teams with a
zero in their record dropped. Seattle had a bye while Pittsburgh and Tennessee
recorded wins to remain the only undefeated teams. The New York Jets were shut
out by Miami to fall to 0-6 and are the lone winless team.
Two
one-loss teams, Kansas City and Baltimore, are actually the favorites to
advance to Super Bowl LV in Tampa. The Chiefs looked like potential champions
in dismantling Buffalo 26-17, but the game wasn't even that close. Baltimore
hung on 30-28 in Philadelphia after nearly blowing a double-digit lead to the
Eagles.

Week 5 by the numbers?
The NFC
Least
The worst
division in the NFL, and it's not even close, is the NFC East. Its members have
combined for five wins through the first six weeks of the season. They only
have one victory and a tie against teams outside the division.
Dallas,
despite getting totally decimated by the Arizona Cardinals 38-10, is the leader
with a 2-4 record. Even with two wins, the Cowboys have been outscored by 45
points on the season. Every team in the division is among the worst eight teams
in the league in point differential.
Under the
Sea
For the second
week in a row, more games failed to reach the over/under total than went over.
Only four games in Week 6 paid off on the over after there were six in Week
5.
The last
two weeks reversed the trend of the first four weeks of the 2020
NFL season. The number of games paying out either side of
the over/under bets is just about even on the season.
Bets on the
over seemed like an attractive option for the first four weeks. Over the last
two weeks, though, defenses and oddsmakers appear to have caught up. Bettors
will need to determine if the last couple of weeks are a blip or a new trend.

Dog Day
Afternoon
Only six
favorites covered the spread in Week 6, and three of them lost outright at
home. Underdogs had a great day, especially the Atlanta Falcons getting their
first win 40-23 at Minnesota. Denver went into New England as 9.5-point
underdogs and came away with an 18-12 shocker over the Patriots.
There was a
pair of favorites that had little difficulty in covering the spread. The
Cardinals were 2.5-point favorites at Dallas at online
sportsbook, but the 38-10 game was never close.
In Miami,
the Dolphins were 9.5-point favorites but trounced the hapless Jets 24-0. The
Jets' scoring average of 10.8 points a game is six points less than the next
lowest team.
