NFL Week 7
By the Numbers
Only one
unbeaten team - the Pittsburgh Steelers - remains after seven weeks of play in
the 2020 NFL season. Remember what happened the last time the Steelers were 6-0
to start a season? Yep, they won a Super
Bowl.
AMERICA’S
BOOKIE WEEKLY FOOTBALL SQUARES CONTEST IS BACK
While the
Steelers face a huge challenge in Baltimore in Week 8, bettors are reminded
that Pittsburgh has been very good to them so far this season.
ATS Records
Not only
are the Steelers unbeaten, but they are also 5-1 ATS. As an underdog at
Tennessee last week, Pittsburgh won outright 27-24 to earn the cover.
Green Bay
is 5-1 so far and is also 5-1 ATS. The Chargers are the only other team with a
5-1 record ATS. L.A. is just 2-4 straight up with wins over the Jets and the
Bengals.
Speaking of
the Jets who are 0-7 SU, they lead three teams at the other end of the
spectrum. New York and Houston are both 1-6 ATS. After seven weeks, one team
has yet to cover a single game this season - Dallas.
Before we
move on, our 49ers
@ Patriots free pick crushed it last week.
How to
Lose in the 4th Quarter
The Atlanta
Falcons might want to write a book on this subject after the season is over.
The Falcons did it again. They held a fourth quarter lead and lost.
With
roughly one minute remaining in their game against Detroit, Atlanta was driving
for a game-winning field goal. That is, until RB Todd Gurley scored on a
10-yard run.
The Falcons
went for two and led by six. Most might think that’s a good thing, however the
remaining 57 seconds was just enough time for Detroit to drive the length of
the field and kick a game-winning field goal.
Instead of
scoring on a ten-yard run, Gurley should have gone down at the one-yard line.
Atlanta could have run time off the clock and kicked a potential game-winning
chip shot field goal. Instead, the Falcons lose again after leading in the
fourth quarter.
In case you
missed it. Did you see last week’s NFL
Week 6 by the numbers?
Over
Still Hot
Scoring is
still up in the NFL. The highest-scoring season on record in NFL history was
2013 when teams scored 46.8 points per game. Currently, NFL teams are putting
up an average of 50.8 points a game.
The betting
market has caught up somewhat, but the Over still enjoys a nice 53-49-2 (51.9
percent) mark on the season. With scoring four points higher than the most
prolific NFL season, it will be interesting to see if scoring adjusts downward.
The last four seasons have ended with average scoring totals between 43.4 and
46.7.
Prime
Time Under
While the
Over still holds a slight advantage overall when looking at 2020 NFL
betting trends, the Under is hot in 2020 prime
time games. Last week, the Under went 2-1 as the Rams and Bears duked it out to
a 24-10 finish.
For the
season so far, the Under is 14-9 (62.2 percent) in 23 prime time games. Bettors
should recall that the Under was a solid 31-17-1 (64.6 percent) in prime time
games last season.
