  • Auburn 27, No. 1 Georgia 24: Alex McPherson made a 34-yard field goal as time expired. Byrum Brown ran for 115 yards and a touchdown and passed for 150 yards and another score.
  • No. 8 BYU 28, No. 2 Notre Dame 24: Bear Bachmeier threw the go-ahead touchdown with 1:47 left. He passed for 224 yards and ran for two touchdowns; BYU stopped Notre Dame at the goal line to preserve the win.
  • No. 4 Ohio State 19, No. 5 Indiana 15: Julian Sayin threw for 235 yards and two touchdowns, with two interceptions, before leaving with an arm injury. Charlie Becker caught nine passes for 165 yards for Indiana. No return timetable is asserted here.
  • No. 14 Tennessee 26, No. 6 Alabama 10: DeSean Bishop ran for 159 yards and two touchdowns. Alabama finished with 201 total yards, four turnovers and two conversions on 13 third downs.

ISR analysis: The close finishes and Tennessee's defensive control were different routes to the final scores. Evaluate the possession-level evidence behind each result instead of treating every upset as the same kind of performance.

MLB: Rays level the ALCS

MLB postseason · October 17, 2026, Eastern Time
Matchup / box scoreScoreStatus
TB @ CLETampa Bay Rays 7 · Cleveland Guardians 3Final
  • Tampa Bay 7, Cleveland 3: The Rays tied the ALCS at 2–2.
  • Aranda and Caminero supply the middle innings: Jonathan Aranda had three hits and two RBIs; Junior Caminero's sixth-inning double drove in the go-ahead run.
  • Díaz adds insurance: Yandy Díaz hit a two-run homer in the ninth.
  • Martinez sets the pitching foundation: Nick Martinez allowed one run on two hits in 5⅓ innings, with two walks and three strikeouts.

ISR analysis: The four-run margin was not the whole game's shape. Tampa Bay first had to move ahead in the sixth, then create separation. Sequence and baserunners give more context than the margin alone.

No-game status

NFL: No October 17 games listed. NBA, including preseason: No October 17 games listed. NCAA men's basketball: No October 17 games listed. All dates here are Eastern Time.

4 STAR★★★★
NFL

Jacksonville -2.5 over New England (NFL)

Playable range: -1 to -4.5

Why we like this pick

I like Jacksonville’s opportunity to turn New England’s early ball-security problems into an advantage at home. Drake Maye entered this game with four interceptions through two weeks, while the Jaguars had already produced three takeaways. That creates a path to shorter fields if Jacksonville’s front can apply pressure. On offense, Trevor Lawrence has capable options in Parker Washington and Jakobi Meyers, but protection against New England’s strong defensive front is essential. The Patriots are disciplined enough to keep this competitive; I’m backing Jacksonville to make the more decisive plays and cover a manageable home spread.

3 STAR★★★
NFL

Washington +8 over Seattle (NFL)

Playable range: +10 to +6

Why we like this pick

I like Washington getting more than a touchdown at home. Losing Jayden Daniels matters, but Marcus Mariota is an experienced replacement who played well in relief the previous week and is willing to challenge defenses downfield. Seattle is missing both starting safeties, Julian Love and Ty Okada, which creates an opportunity for Washington to find enough scoring plays to stay close. The Seahawks had converted only three of seven red-zone trips into touchdowns through two games. Washington’s own injuries and Seattle’s strong defense are concerns, but this number gives the Commanders room to cover without winning outright.

3 STAR★★★
NFL

Detroit -6.5 over N.Y. Jets (NFL)

Playable range: -5 to -8.5

Why we like this pick

I’m backing Detroit’s offensive balance at Ford Field, particularly with Blake Miller and Christian Mahogany trending toward a return to the line. Their presence would help the Lions establish the run and avoid obvious passing situations against a Jets defense that entered the game ranked first overall. Amon-Ra St. Brown’s strong start gives Jared Goff a dependable target to keep drives moving. The concern is Detroit’s defense, which had allowed too many explosive plays through two weeks. This pick depends on cleaner defensive execution and Detroit sustaining drives well enough to build a clear winning margin.
